Street Scenes From a Very Different Jan. 25 in Cairo

As my colleague David D. Kirkpatrick reports from Cairo, the third anniversary of Egypt’s uprising against autocracy was marked by a rally in favor of the new military leader, Gen. Abdul-Fattah el-Sisi, in Tahrir Square, while the security forces cracked down with deadly violence on protesters elsewhere.

Dispatches from bloggers, activists and journalists on the streets of the Egyptian capital on Saturday offered a chronicle of a day that contrasted sharply, for supporters of the 2011 uprising, with the elation of that Jan. 25, still preserved on YouTube.
