The gunman in the shooting at the Mall in Columbia was identified on Sunday as Darion Marcus Aguilar, 19, of College Park, Md.
Police have not identified whether there was a relationship between Mr. Aguilar and the two victims. It is an important piece of information, said the county police chief, William J. McMahon. Police are working to determine whether there was a relationship right now, he said.
The weapon used in the shooting was a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun, police said. It was purchased by Mr. Aguilar in Montgomery County in December. Police are still reviewing the details of the purchase.
Police reviewed surveillance video from the mall and determined that Mr. Aguilar was dropped off at the mall by a taxi cab around 10:15 a.m. He had limited movement inside the mall. He arrived on the upper level of the mall, and walked downstairs before returning upstairs where shooting happened around 11:15 a.m.
