Daily Report: First Step in Overhaul of E-Mail Privacy Law

The Senate Judiciary Committee approved a bill on Thursday that would strengthen privacy protection for e-mails, Charlie Savage reports on Friday in The New York Times. The bill would require law enforcement officials to obtain a warrant from a judge in most cases before gaining access to messages stored in individual accounts.
